These door handles have been crafted using one of the techniques of Kyoto’s traditional industries for high-end silk weaving and Japanese painting, called “yakihaku” (burnished foil). Yakihaku involves applying heat to silver foil attached to Japanese paper, causing it to discolor through sulfurization. Originally, it was used for high-end obi fabric.
Without converting this yakihaku into thread, it was directly applied onto aluminum and composed with exquisite color gradients.

Traditional Crafts

Utilizing the techniques originally employed for traditional luxury kimonos during the samurai era, yakihaku has established a method for applying gold leaf to metal to allow for truly creative expression. Delicate temperature control is implemented to achieve vibrant hues and rich tones during the meticulous heating process.

Reminiscent of ancient Japan, the handles depict flames cast upon the serene surface of silver foil, resembling the calm reflection of the moon on still water.
