Here, we chose to use “Edokiriko” which is said to have originated in Edo (present-day Tokyo) in 1834, for our door handles. Edokiriko is known for its sharp angular cutting, which shines beautifully when illuminated by LED lights embedded in the push plate.
This Japanese cut glass has evolved over time through techniques employing technical guidance from overseas and the development of polishing methods for crystal glass.

Traditional Crafts

Edo Kiriko is one of Japan's traditional crafts that has existed since the age of the samurai and to claim its name requires exceptional merit.
I visited one of Japan’s historic Edo Kiriko workshops and directly commissioned a craftsman, who has been designated as a national treasure.

The sharp cuts made by the craftsman shine under the light, enhancing the handles’ artistic appeal. The precise, flawless movements of the hand are made apparent by the absence of any wavering in the cut glass lines.

From the cut-glass tools that have been researched for over a century, one can feel a historical value beyond the mere tools themselves. The worn corners and numerous marks evoke the efforts and lives of the artisans who have passed them down over generations.
